Morro Soluble Film
Our films replace 'soluble' plastics presently used to wrap dishwasher tablets and laundry pods, keeping microplastics out of wastewater systems.
Morro Nutri enables the fortification of vitamins and nutrients in food and drink. This exciting innovation enables customers to get additional health benefits from their favourite products, without changing the taste or texture.
A drop-in solution for industry, this breakthrough material works seamlessly with existing machinery and manufacturing technology.
Protecting essential vitamins
Our breakthrough material enables the fortification of beverages with additional wellbeing ingredients.
Morro Nutri ‘micro-packaging’ protects vitamins and nutrients in liquid from UV light, pH and heat shock by encasing them in an edible layer of plant-protein material.
This innovation is critical for shipping fortified drinks in easily recyclable packaging, guarding nutrients such as Vitamin D from UV light during transit and storage.
Our microcapsules can enable brands to package any oil-based vitamin or flavouring, including ingredients such as Omega3 and probiotics, all protected from degradation on their way to consumers.
The challenge with micro nutrients
While consumers are increasingly interested in purchasing products that provide additional health benefits, this has posed a significant challenge for brands.
Previously, brands were forced to rely on costly ‘overage’ of micro nutrients, accepting that the ingredients would deteriorate during the products lifetime, or simply would not add vitamins at all.
Morro Nutri provides a new opportunity for brands to increase nutrient content of their product line, in a digestible, vegan, and gluten-free form. This delivers nutrients in their most effective form straight to consumers shopping trolleys.
What do customers want?
Consumers are increasingly health conscious and are looking for products that support a healthy lifestyle. Morro research has found that two in five UK consumers are concerned about their Vitamin D intake, rising to half of those aged 18-34.
With nearly three in five consumers preferring to boost their vitamin intake through food and drink products, finding a solution to protect vital nutrients is essential.
How does Morro Nutri protect the planet?
Research by Britvic has shown that people are 40% more likely to recycle clear bottles over coloured plastics. However, clear plastic bottles let in UV rays, making vitamins far more vulnerable to degradation.
Morro Nutri micropackages any oil-based vitamin or flavouring, to prevent it from breaking down even in clear plastic bottles.
This is a win-win for customers who want to prioritise their health while also caring for the planet.
Britvic and Xampla joined forces to scale-up vitamin encapsulation for a range of beverages using Morro Nutri. This innovation delivers fortified Vitamin D and nutrients direct to consumers.
